The sun is the source of energy for everything on the planet, directly or indirectly. 120,000 TW of solar radiation reaches the Earths surface, far exceeding all our energy needs if it could be harvested.

If 0.16% of the Earth's land surface were covered with solar panels with an efficiency of 10% they would produce 20TW of power, more than enough to meet the energy needs of the entire globe (13TW).
